Sonax expands production and warehouse capacities

With the commissioning of a new building complex for the expansion of the production and warehouse capacities, Sonax is pressing ahead with its expansion activities on the own premises. For the expansion, the producer of car care, cleaning and maintenance products for industrial applications invested an amount reaching into the tens of millions.

The district town of Neuburg on the Danube in the northern area of Upper Bavaria, with its own castle, the Danube riverside, the old town and the nearby Finkenstein nature reserve offers real quality of life. Sonax is well aware of this, too: since 1950, the company has been developing premium car care products and car wash and industrial applications in Neuburg. As owner and managing director Manfred Hoffmann emphasises, Sonax also meets the global requirements despite its high level of commitment to the location: “We feel at home in Neuburg. The town is our base and Sonax is an important part of the town.”

That is why the Bavarian company consciously focused on sustainability during their expansion: “One of our main priorities was to underpin our economic advancement with a form of expansion that is compatible with our environment, cuts energy consumption and promotes biodiversity. We are linking our entrepreneurial future with the region’s ecological future,” says Hoffmann. Sonax’s new industrial hall is located on the company’s premises within the city limits. The building has been designed to accommodate the future needs of Sonax, stresses Manfred Hoffman: “Although the ‘Gereute 1’ has now been completed, we will only be able to use it fully in a few years.”

But tomorrow starts today: the 950-square-metre block store with its 2,400 pallet spaces, the two storage lifts for 3,100 label rolls or the 550-square-metre hazardous material store with 400 pallet spaces are designed for growing demand. This also applies to the filling facility on the first floor of the building, where five filling machines have been installed on an area of 1,600 square metros. The heart of the facility is the state-of-the-art, computer-controlled high-bay warehouse: measuring 2,200 square metres and with around 4,000 pallet spaces, the company has implemented measures to ensure that customers all over the world get the goods they need "just in time": this hall is mainly used to store raw materials and packaging materials so that Sonax can respond to orders flexibly.

The new building not only meets these purely economic purposes, but combines ecology with costs saving: the lighting is controlled by motion detectors throughout the building, the insulation is state of the art and the heat of the waste air is used to ensure the necessary supply of fresh air.New green areas are to be added and endangered species are to be protected: oak trees, espalier fruit trees and berry bushes have been planted along the side of the hall on Karl-Konrad-Straße and the busy Sudetenlandstraße. Creepers, nest boxes, flower meadows and hedges offer varied habitats for native insects, small animals and birds. “The hall fronts and surrounding areas were landscaped using a huge variety of plant species in order to attract wildlife,” said Manfred Hoffmann. These measures immediately create a friendly overall impression and harmonise with the architecture. The location within the city limits poses special challenges according to Manfred Hoffmann: “‘Gereute 1’ is supposed to be anything but an industrial eyesore for the people. When designing the building, particular attention was paid to ensuring that it fits into the streetscape irrespective of the spatial requirements and large scale of the construction project.“ This was achieved in coordination with the Neuburg building authorities, in cooperation with whom a viable concept for a successful and sustainable future was developed.

March 2018 – Sonax, successful manufacturer of cleaning and care products for vehicles and industrial applications, has further expanded its leading market position. Compared to the year before, Sonax GmbH increased the annual sales by 11 % in 2017. The company headquartered in Neuburg on the Danube in Germany achieved a turnover of €115 million in the past fiscal year. “We are very pleased that we could again grow in 2017, even after the extremely successful 2016. 
The new “Sonax Xtreme Spray+Protect” spray sealant, for example, is simpler and quicker than any previous paintwork sealing: thanks to intensive development the Sonax R&D experts designed a paintwork sealing that can be applied during the vehicle wash, requiring around five minutes only. The innovative product celebrates its German debut at the 2017 Essen Motor Show.
Sonax is a world leader in the manufacture of high-performance car care products – and also is very popular with motorsports fans around the globe. This also appeals to drift icon and rallycross pro Ken Block. The star of the spectacular “Gymkhana” videos will set the stage for the Sonax logo in the future.
