Mattias Ekström and Andreas Bakkerud to set the scene for Sonax

Since 2014, Mattias Ekström has been competing for points in the FIA World Rallycross Championship (World RX) with his own rallycross team and has made the team a world leader within three years only. In 2018, – thanks to Sonax – the team can be sure to have brilliant performances. The German car care specialist and the team “EKS Audi Sport” now join their forces in the World RX.

As “Official Product Supplier” Sonax exclusively equips the team with high-performance cleaning, care and technical maintenance products. “EKS Audi Sport” has ambitious plans for the upcoming World RX season: “With the intensified support, also by Sonax, we will compete for victories and the World Championship title in both the driver and the team rankings,” Mattias Ekström said at the team introduction in Silverstone.
To achieve this goal, “EKS Audi Sport” will start with two new Audi S1 EKS RX quattro that now have the red Sonax lettering on their doors. The partnership with the car care specialists represented in 110 countries around the globe will also be expressed on the team’s race suits and on the race trucks. Sonax and “EKS Audi Sport” initially agreed on a contractual period of two years.

“We are very pleased about the cooperation with EKS Audi Sport,” said Franz Fischer, Head of Marketing at Sonax. “The World RX is a particularly interesting racing series as it develops very strongly and credibly sets the scene for the Sonax brand – there is hardly any other series that requires as powerful cleaning and care products. A chance for us to demonstrate the strengths of the Sonax range very convincingly.”
Futhermore, “EKS Audi Sport” can bank on an experienced addition to the team – the Norwegian Andreas Bakkerud already has set the scene for the Sonax brand in the past years as part of Ken Block’s “Hoonigan Racing Team”. Andreas Bakkerud: “I am particularly pleased that Sonax will start into the new season with EKS Audi Sport. In the last two years, I have been able to get to know and appreciate the wheel rim cleaner, windscreen cleaner, paintwork care products and the complete programme under the toughest conditions and became an enthusiastic fan.”

Also Audi makes more efforts than ever: for the 2018 season, the company pushed the enhancement of the Audi S1 EKS RX quattro that now comes with 580 hp. The S1 for example received a new aerodynamics kit. In the 2018 season’s twelve World RX races, Mattias Ekström and Andreas Bakkerud additionally benefit from the support by the Audi Motorsport experts.
